Humanist Wedding near Lydford Gorge, Devon – Lea & Craig
I love a humanist wedding. It is such a lovely way to have a wedding ceremony that is unique and outside with the sound of nature. It was an absolute pleasure to be Devon wedding photographer for Lea & Craig’s beautiful wedding at Whitelady House in Lydford, just on the edge of Dartmoor. Lyford is also know for the beautiful Lydford Gorge which is well worth a visit and free if you’re a National Trust member!
It was really lovely to see Lea & Craig again. We first met up in one of my many offices, Costa, to chat about their wedding plans! Lea & Craig both live & work in Grantham so had travelled a good many miles for their wedding. I think all but one of their guests had travelled from outside the county with Lea’s family coming over from Germany! The wedding had a theme of English tea party with rustic and diy undertones. It really was beautifully put together!

The day started off with some getting ready shots with Lea and her bridesmaids. They had created their own beautiful floral crowns which looked really lovely. The ceremony was being held on the lawn and was conducted by Humanist celebrant Zena Birch. Lea arrived at the ceremony with bridesmaids to the music ‘ Skye Boat Song’ performed by Craig’s brother Gavin (the best-man) on violin and Adam on the keyboard. It was a beautiful ceremony with readings by Lea’s Mum and Craig’s Dad. Another lovely moment was the procession of the rings, where guests bless the rings with happy thoughts for the couple. The rings were passed around the guests to the sounds of ‘ Somewhere Over The Rainbow’. It was lovely and also very emotional! The couple went on to the signing while the guests sang ‘Ain’t That a Kick in the Head’.
A humanist wedding can be really beautiful, personal and completely unique. I have written a blog about to cover the subject in more detail. If you would like to find out more please check out by blog: Hiring a Wedding Humanist Celebrant in Devon
After the ceremony and afternoon tea, the party relaxed in the sunshine by playing Jenga & Croquet on the lawn, as well as just enjoying each others company. As evening approached, and with the speeches done, the bride & groom with guests enjoyed the bbq under the warm sunshine. A fabulous day, please check out the pictures below.
