Dartmoor Wedding – Katie & Ian
It was fantastic to be the photographer for Ian & Katie’s Devon wedding on Dartmoor. The day seems like it was such along time ago, the wedding season has flown by. I always find driving on Dartmoor a bit of a unique experience. Usually flanked on either side by banks and high hedges which just accentuates the narrowness of the road. Anyway after a very slow, nose pressed against the window drive on Dartmoor I reached the beautiful St Mary the Virgin Church in Throwleigh where the ceremony was taking place. We were also experiencing the lovely Dartmoor weather, it started off as a drizzle and went on to a mizzle but thankfully had stopped by the end of the ceremony.
Wedding on Dartmoor in Devon
A lovely ceremony lead by the lovely smiley vicar who just smiled a lot when the children joined in. I love to see kids at weddings, I always find it so funny to capture the kids embarrassing their parents. During ceremonies the children seem to wake up, become more active and make a lot of noise. Hilarious! After the ceremony the guests headed off to Gidleigh Village Hall for the celebrations while we headed off in the beautiful Dyllis of Devon – Austin a40 driven by Neil from Best Day Ever. It was very windy up on the moor but lovely. On the way back the local wildlife showed a bit of interest, I think they were impressed with the vehicle.
Once back at the venue the guests relaxed in the village hall grounds drinking the local ale before heading inside for the speeches and the wedding breakfast. The speeches always provides much entertainment. I think it’s the first time I have witnessed a cabbage being produced during the speeches; in fact I know it’s the only time I have witnessed a cabbage being produced during the speeches. By the time the meal was finished and the multitude of cakes cut, and after being attacked by one the kids, the dancing began.
Katie & Ian had forgone the first dance and opted for a ceilidh. It was a lot of fun watching the participating guests learn the moves and put them into practise.
I hope you enjoy the images. The kids entertained me throughout the day. Love the image of the child giving the death-stare. If you would like to see more please watch the YouTube slideshow. Enjoy!
Cheers Anthony
