Anthony Lyons offering professional wedding photography in Devon

As a wedding photographer I get asked many questions by couples about the service I provide, what to expect etc, so I have decided to create a page to answer any questions you may have.  If you can’t see the answer to a question you have, then please do not hesitate to contact me.   As time moves on I will continue to update the page.  In the mean time please feel free to browse through the questions & answers.

One of the most frequent questions I get asked is ” where are you based?”.  Well I am based in Tiverton, Devon  and I work from home.  I have lived in Tiverton for about seven years and share a home with my partner & daughter.  Tiverton is in a great location to service the Southwest as I am only 5 minutes from the North Devon Link road and 15 minutes from The M5.

Q – Can you service the whole of the Southwest?

A – Yes is the short answer, I have no problem providing wedding photography for all of Devon, Somerset, Cornwall and beyond.   I regularly travel out of the county to photograph weddings.

Q – Will you meet up for a pre-wedding consultation?

A – It is always a good idea to meet up before the wedding day to discuss your requirements.  I usually recommend to meet up at the venue so we can have a look round and discuss any ideas you may have.  It also gives me a chance to take notes and start to formulate ideas.

Q – My fiance is nervous about being in front of the camera and worries this will show in the images.  Can you offer a pre-wedding shoot or engagement shoot?

A – An engagement shoot/pre-wedding shoot is a good idea if there are any nerves about being in front of the camera.  There is no pressure on the day so you can relax.  We usually agree to meet at a favorite location and talk through some ideas.  It’s really informal and by the end you will be totally relaxed and comfortable about being in front of the camera.   The shoot usually takes up to an hour and a half and so it’s  a good time to get to know each other and get use to being in front of the camera.  It’s also a nice addition to the overall wedding experience. If you would like to order a engagement album to accompany the shoot, that’s fine.

Q – What type of wedding photography do you offer?

A –  I offer a fusion of documentary and traditional style wedding photography.  If you take a look at the wedding blogs you will get an idea of the style I offer.  I am always looking to capture the emotion of the day in the most natural and unobtrusive way I possibly can.

Q – We would like to go for some intimate bride & groom shots at a favorite location or nearby beauty spot, is this okay?

A – Absolutely, its always nice to take time out to do the romantic bride & groom shots.  We would need to discuss your ideas in greater detail.

Q – Can I book you for half a day?

A – Yes you can. The hours have to be booked consecutively.

Q – Are there any time constraints on the full day package?

A – When you book me for the full day you get me from the bride getting ready, or from when you want me to start, through to the first dance.  I usually stay for a short amount of time after the first dance to capture your family & friends joining you on the dance floor.

Q – Can you photograph the ceremony?

A – There are many different answers to this questions as the officials, vicars etc can be fickle.  There are some who will let you photograph without any restriction, others who only allow a certain amount of shots, and others who will not allow any photography throughout the ceremony.  Generally we are not allowed to photograph the actual signing of the register, a mock-up is set up after the signing.  It is always best to check first to find out if there are any restrictions.

Q – Can you do group-shots?

A – Most couples want a few group-shots to include in an album or for the relatives.  I would suggest keeping the group-shots to a maximum of about ten groups as each group can take up to ten minutes and in some cases longer, especially if an uncle has gone to find the bar!   You also need to keep in mind that while I am photographing the group-shots I am unable to capture the more natural candid shots, unless of course you have decided to book an additional photographer.

Q – Do you still offer more traditional shots like signing the register, cutting of the cake etc?

A – Although my style of photography is reportage/candid/documentary I can also capture the more traditional shots such as a posed signing the register and cutting of the cake.  The signing of the register is usually set up as the registrar/ vicar will not allow any photographs to be taken of the actual signing.  I can also pose other traditional shots as well as capturing  a more natural spontaneous image.

Q – Are you covered by insurance for any eventuality?

A – I have public liability and indemnity insurance.

Q – What happens if it rains?

A – This is something that worries most.   Usually there is a break in the rain so we get a chance to go outside and do some shots.  I also have some umbrellas. If it’s non stop raining then we can do the shots inside.  I am fully equipped with the necessary tools for the job, so you don’t need to worry.

Q – We would like to have our wedding photographs in an album, can you supply an album?

A – I do a range of high end top quality digitally printed wedding albums in a range of sizes and different finishes.  I will design an album with a selection of images you have chosen.  Once you are happy with the design and layout I will place the order.
